Every year, as the days get shorter and the light slips away a little earlier, something in me shifts. It’s like my internal landscape gets a little quieter, a little heavier. For a long time, winter months and darker weather have pulled me into a place I didn’t really know how to talk about. I thought it was just me being “off.” Now I know it’s seasonal, it’s emotional, and it’s very real.
And honestly? I’ve learned that this is exactly the time of year when I need to reach out instead of retreating. I lean into connection. I check in with other Coaches. Sometimes I talk with a therapist. I do the small, steady things that keep me from getting stuck in that darker place.
I know I’m not alone. So many people notice a shift in their mood, energy, or sense of hope during the winter months. Some call it seasonal depression, some call it “the winter blues,” and some don’t name it at all—they just feel the weight of it. I’d genuinely love to hear what this time of year feels like for others. Do you notice emotional changes? How do you take care of yourself when the light fades early?
For us at DreamCatchers, winter also means shifting how we support people. When the weather turns cold, we move to online and phone-based coaching so folks can stay connected and supported without braving the elements. And on those rare, beautiful winter days when the sun warms the world just enough, we absolutely take advantage of it and savor the in-person moments with our horse partners.
If this season feels heavier for you too, you’re not alone. And if you’d like support, connection, or a grounding conversation, reach out. We’re here, even in the winter.
